Full Tilt Poker Review

Posted under Poker Site Reviews on October 28

Don’t be put off by the title - I can tell you from experience that you are no more likely to get put on tilt on this behemoth of a site than any other. What’s more, you can play against and chat with studly pros such as Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson.

1) Software

In terms of software, I rate Full Tilt the best; the deal is very fast, which makes multi-tabling a joy. Also, the mini-table view (which allows you to tile 4 windows on the one monitor) is incredibly clear - you can make out all the necessary details without having to strain your eyes. The instant hand history, which allows you to view the past 50 hands, is a very welcome feature, and can make for entertaining viewing when you see what junk a donkey called you down to the river with. You can choose from various cartoony avatars, but I find them pretty childish and unnecessary, hence I turn them off. If I can remember correctly, by default you can play up to 12 tables at once, however if you email Full Tilt support they will upgrade this to a 16 table limit. I’m not sure why they don’t have 16 tabling an automatic option when you sign-up, but the support is very quick in response, hence it isn’t a problem.

2) Traffic and game selection

Traffic-wise, Full Tilt comes second only Pokerstars. No matter what the time of day, you won’t have a problem finding a cash table or a sit and go. During peak hours, traffic approaches the 100 000 players mark, and even during the quietest hours (namely when the Americans are sleeping) I haven’t seen traffic far below 20 000. There are also many other games available in addition to Holdem including various forms of Stud, Omaha, Razz and even HORSE. The only notable absence is any form of Draw poker. However, if you want to play Draw poker then I recommend you check out Pokerstars.

3) Sign-up bonus

Full Tilt offers the most generous sign-up bonus for new depositors. I am proud to be able to bring you a tasty 100% match up to $600 through my link; none too shabby at all! Even at low stakes you can earn points towards the bonus quickly, and it is released in increments (unlike other sites where you have to earn it all before you receive anything). What’s more, I believe you get a full three months to earn this first bonus. If that wasn’t cool enough, you can also trade in your Full Tilt points for sweet clothing (don’t tell my girlfriend I just ordered another jacket!), poker books and electronics such as laptops and video cameras.

4) Level of competition

In terms of competition, Full Tilt is tougher than average. That’s not to say you won’t get some absolute brain-dead donkeys at the low limits though. The sit and gos tend to be softer than the cash games, and an ideal place to build a bankroll. The cash games are tighter than average, but you will still see some horrible decisions post-flop.

5) Customer service

Customer service is first class at Full Tilt. Replies to queries are always very prompt, and when they suffered server downtime whilst I was in a sit and go, I was given a meaty $200 bonus, as well as sparkling apology.

6) Deposit and withdrawal options

All the standard credit card and money transfer companies are available here. I personally use my VISA Debit card; a couple of clicks and “boom!”, another chunk of money shipped into my bank account.

In conclusion, Full Tilt Poker should be one of your primary online poker haunts whether you are a beginner (can’t complain about the huge $600 bonus!), or a seasoned vet (lots of high stakes action with glamorous pros).
